Gauge the effectiveness of your Web Presence
Get feedback from the people visiting your Web site. Take it into account
and make changes to your Web Presence!
How?
Consider any or all of the following methods to solicit feedback:
- Include an E-Mailing address on every page of your Web Presence.
When a thought or comment strikes, a visitor should not need to go looking
through the Web site for a way to contact you.
- Try to include a survey form strategically in the Web site. Gather
information discretely and politely. Ask a few questions, get a few answers.
Trail the survey itself across several Web site pages if possible.
- Above all respect the visitor's privacy. Don't ask for names
unless there's a reason. The information you need is about opinions and
insights. It should not matter who this person is, only what this person thinks
and wants to tell you.
- If you use Web site hit statistics, be careful how you interpret the
results. These numbers may be skewed by the structure of your Web site.
Every in-line image or datum on a Web page that's automatically fetched by a Web
Browser may be counted as a hit on that page. The simple act of reading a
single Web Page with 10 in-line images can generate a Web Page hit count of 11
for a single viewer!
- Finally, remember that information given to you is a gift. Offer
a gift of information in return.
